Background: Online education became the new normal during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the number of studies exploring the potential advantages/disadvantages of e-learning in pharmacy courses is limited. Study aim: to propose a strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) analysis of e-learning according to pharmacy students’ perspectives. Methods: A narrative review was conducted to examine student pharmacist perspectives on e-learning. Results: Diverse strengths and weaknesses (internal environment) and opportunities and threats (external environment) were identified, which were grouped into categories, such as (1) students’ well-being (e.g., access to classes anywhere vs. students’ psychological or physical disorders); (2) teachers and materials (e.g., more diverse/interesting audiovisual materials vs. too challenging materials); (3) technologies (e.g., new education strategies, such as gamification vs. barriers in the access to the internet); (4) classes/training (e.g., more versatile/immediate classes vs. eventual presence of other persons during online classes); and (5) faculty/school of pharmacy (e.g., availability of technical support). Conclusion: Overall, online education seems to be suitable for pharmacy students, although diverse challenges should be addressed, such as the well-being of students or lack of standards. Pharmacy schools should regularly identify/define and implement measures to reinforce opportunities and strengths as well as to solve threats and weaknesses.

BackgroundIt is crucial to use innovative tools to gain clinical reasoning skills through experiential learning in pharmacy education, and one of the most effective tools used in this is virtual reality. However, the lack of research that empirically demonstrates the instructional principles of virtual environment design, especially in the clinical setting, has resulted in a significant gap in the current literature.AimIn this study, it was aimed to determine the instructional design principles of a virtual environment for the clinical pharmacy.MethodThe study was conducted as a design‐based research. The data of the study related to three components of the developed virtual reality environment in pharmacy education (VRPE). These components, scenario development interface‐scenario development interface, virtual environment, and scenario, were collected through interviews, observation, document review, and a system usability scale. Instructional design principles for the VRPE were determined through analysis of the collected data.ResultsThe prominent instructional design principles of the VRPE were revealed as immersion, interaction, diversity, flow, aesthetics‐ergonomic‐universal design, informing, and retest availability. The significance of the study was the adoption of a holistic perspective in the design of a virtual reality environment for pharmacy education. In addition, one of the most critical features of the study was eliminating the expertise barrier in virtual environment design. Thus, it was concluded that the VRPE is an extraordinary tool that can be used for pharmacy education to promote experiential learning.

Gelişmekte olan dünya, yıllar geçtikçe dijital bir geleceğe doğru ilerlemeye devam etmektedir. Teknolojinin büyük ölçüde etkilediği sektörlerden biri de sağlık sektörüdür. Sağlık hizmetlerinde yapay zeka kullanımı zamanla artmıştır Örneğin nesnelerin internetinin kullanıldığı alanlardan biri, hekimlere önemli bilgiler sağlayan giyilebilir teknolojik cihazlar aracılığıyla hastalardan veri toplanmasıdır. Sağlık hizmeti sunan Eczacılık mesleği, ürün odaklı bir meslekten hasta odaklı bir mesleğe doğru değişmeye devam ettikçe bilgi ve iletişim teknolojilerinin eczacılıktaki rolleri giderek önem kazanmaktadır. Dijital eczaneler ile geleneksel eczacılık mesleğinin tehlikeye girebileceğinden endişe duyulsa da bu uygulamaların gerçek eczanelerdeki empati, yüz yüze iletişim ve çok sayıda diğer hizmetin yerini tutmayacağı belirtilmiştir. COVID-19 salgını ile birlikte eğitimin aksaması endişesi söz konusu olmuştur ancak dünyanın birçok yerinde dijital teknolojiler sayesinde eğitim devam etmiştir. Sürekli değişen sağlık sistemi ve eğitim ortamında, yeni pedagojik stratejilerle en yüksek verim alınmasının amaçlanması gerektiği ileri sürülmüştür. Dijital çözümlerin; hastalar için ilaç uyuncu, ilaç takibi, sağlık okuryazarlığının geliştirilmesi gibi geleneksel eczane hizmetlerini; eczane için ise maliyetleri ve kolaylaştırıcı hizmetleri destekleyebileceği düşünülmektedir. Dünyada örnekleri bulunan çevrimiçi eczacılık hizmetlerinin; eczanelerdeki yüz yüze iletişim, empati, ilaç danışmanlığı gibi sosyal hizmetlerin yerini tutamayacağının altı çizilmelidir. Tüm dünyayı zorunlu değişime sürükleyen COVID-19 salgını nedeniyle eğitimde teknolojilerin kullanılması kaçınılmaz olmuştur. Yeni nesil dijital yerli öğrencilerin bu teknolojilere adapte olması çok daha kolay olacağı düşünülmektedir. Derslerin sürdürülmesindeki kolaylık, kırtasiye gibi maliyetlerin azalması, zaman tasarrufu ve kendi kendine öğrenme kolaylığı gibi avantajları bulunmaktadır. Aynı zamanda maddi imkanlar sebebiyle toplumun her kesiminin bu teknolojik gelişmelere ulaşamaması gibi sorunlar da mevcuttur. Hükümetlerin, şirketlerin, politikacıların bu konuda tartışarak bütçe ayırmasının faydalı olabileceği düşünülmektedir
