With the rapid development of digital technologies, digital transformation reshapes the functioning of governments. Digital government (DG) aims to leverage technology to enhance the delivery of public services, improve efficiency, and foster transparency. Embracing DG is a strategic imperative for governments looking to provide effective, transparent, and citizen-centric services in the 21st century. Therefore, many government organizations have intensified their DG efforts in response to its necessity. However, there is little clarity in the previous literature and a lack of uniform understanding among government employees, policymakers, and citizens regarding the concept of DG. Therefore, this study aims to analyze current DG research with science mapping, classify the research areas, and propose future directions for upcoming studies. A search was conducted on Web of Science and Scopus databases since the year 2000. VOSViewer software was used for visualizing and exploring bibliometric networks. This study is one of the first attempts to examine the DG area using the science mapping approach. Selected publications were categorized into research areas, and future directions were presented to bridge the identified research gaps. According to our results, the five main research areas are DG transformation, cybersecurity, public participation and social media, open government data and transparency, and e-Government adoption models. This study guides practitioners, academics, policymakers, and public employees in planning their future studies.

Background In today’s business environment, information security and availability are critical to the success of SMEs. This article presents research that addresses the challenges of security and availability of information in sales registration faced by SMEs worldwide. The main objective was to implement a virtual platform for the sales process in SMEs in San Vicente de Cañete, taking into consideration information security standards to preserve user data. Methods The development of the system was divided into five phases: Initiation, Planning, Implementation, Review and Launch. After implementation, an efficient sales process was achieved, guaranteeing the security and availability of information, and optimising management in an agile and secure manner. Results In addition, the virtual platform improves the purchasing experience by allowing the generation of reports and revenue management through a dashboard, promoting the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) in SMEs. Conclusions In conclusion, the research implemented a virtual platform for sales in SMEs, ensuring the security and availability of information. It improved management with reports and a control panel, encouraging the use of ICTs in these companies.

Background The vocational guidance process in educational institutions faces important challenges in managing trials and errors in diagnoses. Technological tools are identified as an effective solution to address these problems. This research seeks to improve career guidance in educational institutions through the implementation of an expert system. The main objective is to reduce test processing time and achieve greater efficiency in students’ self-knowledge regarding their interests, based on the personalities of the Holland Test. Methods The development of the expert system followed a six-model approach. First, an organisational model was created to assess the scope and feasibility of the project. Next, a task and agent model was developed to investigate the impact and look for improvements. A knowledge model was then developed to analyse the relevant knowledge bases. A communication model was also developed to evaluate the communication interface of the system. Next, a design model was created to provide guidelines for the implementation of the system. Finally, the implementation of the knowledge system was carried out to ensure its correct functioning. Results The implementation of the expert system has shown significant improvements in the vocational guidance process. It was possible to reduce the time needed to apply the test, thus optimising the psychologist’s time and allowing a greater capacity for analysis. In addition, an improvement in the effectiveness of the students’ self-knowledge in relation to their vocational interests based on the personalities of the Holland Test was observed. Conclusions This study contributes to career guidance in educational institutions by introducing an innovative expert system. This technological solution optimizes the career guidance process, benefiting psychologists administering tests and students seeking self-knowledge about their career interests.
