“…In the present data, the mother sporocysts reproduce several daughters' sporocysts and migrate to the digestive gland of the snails at 21 DAE. This result is in agreement with Mansour and Ibrahim (2023). After the invasion of miracidia and during the sporocyst development in the snail tissues, the parasite has to interact with the snail immune system as the presence of an extracellular matrix that surrounds and envelops the sporocysts (Van der Knaap & Loker, 1990).…”

“…The main function of the hemocytes is to freely circulate in tissues and hemolymph to recognize and phagocytose non‐self‐particles (Van der Knaap & Loker, 1990) or to recognize and destroy the parasite through encapsulation reaction involving plasma activating or recognition factors, lysosomal enzymes, or other cytotoxic elements and phagocytosis of the damaged parasite tegument followed by degeneration and finally exclusion from the tissues of the snails (Mansour & Ibrahim, 2023). The present results indicated that the hemocytes were aggregated around the sporocysts.…”

“…This disease is prevalent in tropical and subtropical areas, affecting approximately 240 million people globally, with about 700 million people at risk, particularly in poor communities with inadequate sanitation facilities [ 3 – 6 ]. Schistosoma mansoni and S. haematobium are the two parasites that cause the most widespread forms of intestinal and urogenital schistosomiasis [ 7 ]. In our laboratory, we use the infection of B. alexandrina with S. mansoni and B. truncatus with S. haematobium to study the impact of host-parasite infections on physiological and behavioral changes, including reduced fecundity and increased feeding behavior in the two intermediate host species.…”
