ABSTRACT:In this study, the effects of Values Education Program on social and emotional development of sixyear-old children attending preschool are examined. Study group of the research is composed of 44 six-year-old students attending preschool classes. As data collection device, Preschool Behavioral and Emotional Rating Scale (PreBERS) developed by Epstein & Synhorst (2009). PreBERS' adaptation into Turkish and validity and reliability study for six year old children is done by Öztürk Samur, Deniz, Durmuşoğlu Saltalı & Arı (2009) is used. At the end of analysis of the data gathered in the study, it is seen that there is a significant difference between experiential and control groups' post-test scores from emotional regulation, school readiness, social confidence and total social emotional development in favor of experiential group. However, a difference in family involvement scores is not remarkable. There is a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores of experiential group from school readiness, social confidence, family involvement and total social emotional development; it is seen that post-test scores are considerably higher than pre-test scores. There is a significant difference in family involvement subdimension for control group; their post-test scores are remarkably higher than pre-test scores. It was seen that, there was only a significant difference in family involvement sub-dimension for pre-test post test scores of control group children, in other sub-dimensions there was no significant difference. Results of the retention test which was applied to the experimental group proved that the effects of the program are permanent.
