Differential spatial expression of A- and B-type CDKs, and distribution of auxins and cytokinins in the open transverse root apical meristem of Cucurbita maxima

Abstract: Cucma;CDKA;1 was expressed most strongly in cells that have proliferative competence whereas Cucma;CDKB2 was confined mainly to mitotic cells. iPA and t-Z marked differentiated cells in the RAM, consistent with the known effect of cytokinins in promoting differentiation in root systems. iPA/t-Z were distributed in a converse pattern to Cucma;CDKB2 expression whereas IAA was detected in most cells in the RAM regardless of their proliferative potential.

“…Additionally, immunolocalization has been applied to monitor auxin distribution (Benková et al, 2003;Schlicht et al, 2006). This method was used to analyse the distribution of auxin in the root apical meristem of Cucurbita maxima where LR initiation occurs (Chiappetta et al, 2011). However, the method did not yield clear results in that it did not show any auxin maxima in the root apical meristem.…”

“…1), suggesting that Cdk2 may also play a role in encystation. Similarly, it has been found that the expression of plant Cdks was induced in specific tissues with a high proliferative or mitotic competence (78). Interestingly, the giardial Cdk2 was detected in the basal body-enriched fraction, suggesting its role in giardial cell division (85).…”
