Differential diagnosis of small pigmented choroidal tumours

Abstract: Forty-one pigmented choroidal tumours: 18 chnical naevi and 23 melanomas, were 9 32 . t studied by measuring the prominence of the turnout and by performing a P 1so ope test, fluorescein angiography and perimetry. The test results permitted a reliable differentiation b etween choroidal naevus and melanoma.

“…The prognosis for the patient with a melanoma of the choroid or ciliary body is largely dependent on the type of cell of which the turnout is composed, but also on the extent of epi-and extrascleral invasion (Shammas and Blodi, 1977;Affeldt et al, 1980;Oosterhuis and de Wolff-Rouendaal, 1981).…”

“…In ophthalmology the high resolution CT-scan is being used more and more. Ophthalmological examination, especially by means of funduscopy, fluorescein angiography and perimetry, gives a good picture of an intraocular turnout (Oosterhuis and de Wolff-Rouendaal, 1981). Ultrasonography adds information about the prominence and the shape and gives information about the tissue structure (Till and Hauff, 1981).…”
