Differences of electroencephalography wave with eyes-closed between older women with dementia and without dementia

Abstract: Electroencephalograph (EEG) is an alternative tool to detect brain abnormalities, but research on dementia patients is still limited. This study aimed to determine the differences in EEG waves with closed eyes between older women with dementia and non-dementia. This research uses a cross-sectional method. Examination of dementia using MMSE (Mini-Mental State Examination) with a cut-off value of 23 and examination of brain waves using InteraXon Muse Headband EEG (InteraXon, Canada) for 10 minutes at rest with e… Show more

“…The studies included in this review involved 14 countries, mainly including 12 studies from China, six from Korea, five from the United States, five from Australia, and four from Japan. There were 26 studies conducted in cooperation with researchers in nursing and other disciplines, especially with psychology and neuroscience researchers (Benoit et al, 2021; Bi et al, 2022; Cai et al, 2022; Campbell‐Yeo et al, 2022; Cao et al, 2015; Cao et al, 2017; Cao, Si, Li, & Guo, 2022; Cao, Si, Li, Guo, & Yue, 2022; Cui et al, 2021; Dai et al, 2016; Fitriana et al, 2021; Francisco et al, 2019; Gong et al, 2022; Hwang et al, 2019; Hwang et al, 2022; Kim et al, 2018; Kim et al, 2022; Lees et al, 2020; Peters et al, 2014; Shepherd et al, 1999; Shiroshita et al, 2021; Sung et al, 2022; Välimäki et al, 2021; Yang et al, 2012; Yang et al, 2016; Zhao et al, 2021).…”

“…Studies have used EEG methods (Cai et al, 2022; Kwon et al, 2013; Mukherjee et al, 2013; Okubo, 2011; Sun et al, 2020; Yang et al, 2012; Yang et al, 2016) or ERP (Cao et al, 2017; Välimäki et al, 2021; Yan et al, 2022; Zhao et al, 2021) to identify some changes in the neural function of patients in response to the intervention. Studies also used EEG (Fitriana et al, 2021; Grusendorf, 1994; Jin et al, 2022) or ERP (Bi et al, 2022; Cao et al, 2015; Cao, Si, Li, & Guo, 2022; Cao, Si, Li, Guo, & Yue, 2022; Dai et al, 2016; Peters et al, 2014) to explore the difference in brain activity between different severity patients or compared with normal subjects. One study used EEG to investigate whether nutrient and food intake were related with mild cognitive impairment in adults and elderly over 50 years of age (Kim et al, 2018).…”
