Differences in time to natural conception between women with unexplained infertility and infertile women with minor endometriosis

Abstract: The findings, although undertaken in a select population undergoing laparoscopy, suggest the likelihood of pregnancy is reduced in infertile women with minimal/mild endometriosis compared with those infertile women with a normal pelvis. Duration of infertility and a previous history of pregnancy are important in predicting the likelihood of pregnancy in women with no obvious cause for their infertility (unexplained), whilst the relationship may be more complex in women with minor endometriosis

“…Endometriosis is considered to be the most intractable cause of female infertility [1,2]. Possible causes of the infertility include poor quality of oocytes and embryos [3], impaired fertilization [4,5], and impaired implantation [6], each of which can be induced by inflammation and oxidative stress in the pelvic cavity [7][8][9].…”

“…Endometriosis is tightly linked to infertility, which is manifested at very early stages of endometriosis [1]. It is easily understandable that moderate to severe [2] endometriosis results in anatomical destruction and distortion in the peritoneal cavity causing infertility.…”

“…Certains auteurs sont en faveur de la coelioscopie systématique pour la recherche d'endométriose [21][22][23][24], d'autres opposés à ce geste [25][26][27][28]. Même l'ESHRE dans ses recommandations ne préconise la coelioscopie qu'en cas de symptômes d'endométriose chez les femmes [11].…”
