“…With regard to gender the results were in line with previous studies, which indicated gender invariance in the imagery ability (Campos, 2014;Williams et al, 2012;Bhasavanija, Vongjaturapat, Morris, & Muangnapo, 2011;Hall, 2001;Richardson, 1994Richardson, , 1999Abma, Fry, Li, & Relyea, 2002;Lorant & Nicholas, 2004;Vadocz, Hall, & Moritz, 1997). Despite the fact that there was some evidence where males and females presented different imagery generating capabilities, it should be pointed out that different aspects of imagery were examined and only limited differences were discovered (Ozel, Molinaro, & Larue, 2001;Richardson, 1995;Taktek, 2004;Campos, Pérez-Fabello, & Gómez-Juncal, 2004;Williams & Cumming, 2011;Budnik-Przybylska, 2014).…”

“…By comparing a correlated traits version of the model to an uncorrelated version, our results revealed that visual and kinesthetic imagery should be considered as separate but related constructs. This finding is in accordance with previous studies (Abma et al, 2002;Goss et al, 1986;Vadocz et al, 1997). Unlike previous MIQ-R validation, our findings support the MIQ-R as a measure of movement imagery ability for both males and females, as the factor structure was invariant across gender.…”

“…Based on the validation of the VMIQ-2 (Roberts et al, 2008), which also assesses multiple dimensions of imagery ability using the same items, and previous research that demonstrates significant correlations between visual and kinesthetic imagery (e.g., Abma et al, 2002;Goss et al, 1986;Vadocz et al, 1997), we hypothesized that a correlated trait-correlated uniqueness model would provide the best fit to the data. In addition, it was hypothesized that our final model would display gender invariance, and based on studies demonstrating no gender differences in imagery ability (e.g., Lorant & Nicholas, 2004;Monsma et al, 2009;, that there would be no significant gender differences in latent means.…”

“…The two most important sensory modalities used in imagery are the visual and the kinesthetic (Farahatet, 2004). Visual imagery is the ability to clearly see the specified images, whereas kinesthetic imagery is the ability to clearly feel imaged body movements and other physical sensations (Abma et al, 2002). Thus the kinesthetic sense is often recommended for athletes (Gould et al, 2002;Murphy, 1994;Weinberg & Gould, 2007).…”
