“…Proteobacteria comprise many pathogenic genera and are believed to be a potential pro-inflammatory phylum ( 38 ). The positive association of some species with constipation was inhibited in constipated mice via the TY-S01 intervention, such as Ruminococcaceae , Clostridium-sensu-stricto-1 , Parasutterella , and Escherichia-Shigella ( 12 , 39 , 40 ). Furthermore, the populations of Lachnospiraceae , Bacteroidaceae , Desulfovibrio , and Eubacterium-brachy- group were heightened after TY-S01 treatment.…”

“…Bacteroidetes promote the expression of gut-associated proteins to accelerate intestinal motility ( 42 ). And Desulfovibrio, Eubacterium-brachy- group have a positive effect on ameliorating constipation ( 12 , 43 ). Surprisingly, there were obvious associations of metabolic biomarkers with specific species in the intestine by correlation analysis.…”

“…A recent report suggested that Alistipes could produce succinic acid, which helps to maintain intestinal homeostasis by accelerating cell differentiation, promoting tight junction assembly, and increasing the expression of proglucagon in intestinal L cells [ 38 ]. In addition, Faecalibaculum , a kind of lactic acid producer, is known to be strongly negatively related to inflammatory cytokines (IL-6 and TNF-α) [ 39 ]. Taken together, our results clearly elaborate that B. pseudolongum (Bp7 and Bp8) intervention regulates the intestinal microbiota structure, and its collective effects suppress intestinal inflammation.…”

“…Low levels of fecal SCFAs have been observed in a mouse model of depression [140], while administration of dietary fiber increased SCFA formation by gut bacteria, which was linked to increased monoamine expression and reduced depressive-like behavior in mice [141,142]. While direct administration of SCFAs does not appear to affect the motilin levels [143], administration of a dietary symbiotic was associated with concurrent increases in the levels of motilin and gut SCFAs in an animal model of constipation, which correlated with improvements in bowel functioning [144]. These findings suggest that a significant relationship exists between certain dietary components and motilin secretion, which may merit further examination when examining dietary gut-brain axis relationships in depression.…”
