“…But the increased relation of Ca 2+ to total Ca found with low DCAD in ruminal fluid (Table ) accompanied by unchanged transmural potential difference might have facilitated absorption of Ca in vivo and hence stabilised plasma concentrations. Furthermore, greater ruminal concentrations of Mg and Cl, as shown for sheep on the low DCAD diet in the current study, were associated with increased gastrointestinal Ca absorption in vivo and in vitro (Kozakai et al., ).…”

“…Fine et al ( 150 ) have found that increasing dietary Mg 2+ had no effect on Ca absorption. Kosakai et al ( 151 ) have demonstrated in sheep that the apparent Ca absorption tended to increase when the dietary Mg 2+ content was increased, which was accompanied without an alteration in the plasma Ca concentration and increased urinary Ca excretion. Bae et al ( 152 ) have shown that the consumption of seaweed Ca extract or inorganic calcium carbonate with Mg 2+ oxide in OVX rats produced a similar intestinal Ca absorption, but only the seaweed Ca extract caused an increase in femoral BMD and strength in OVX rats.…”

“…In this study, it was decided to apply the eggshell in gingerbread since it is a popular snack and willingly eaten by children and the elderly, hence becoming a source of essential calcium for healthy bone growth. Moreover, the presence of vitamin D, inulin, as well as other indigestible oligosaccharides, magnesium, or short-chain fatty acids, is beneficial for calcium absorption in the body [ 18 , 39 , 40 ]. The novelty of this article was the combined application of calcium from eggshell powder and antioxidant from green tea in gingerbread as a new alternative to increase calcium intake and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.…”
