Dietary Fructans and Their Potential Beneficial Influence on Health and Performance Parametrs in Broiler Chickens

Abstract: Fructans, which include inulin and fructooligosaccharides, are non-digestible carbohydrates that are fermented in the large intestine. This review focuses on the effect of these prebiotics on gut microflora, fermentation characteristics, gut morphology, enzymes activity, nutrients digestibility and absorption, lipids metabolism and performance parameters in broiler chickens. Inulin-type fructans can improve performance of birds and health by affecting microbial community in the gastrointestinal tract, gut morp… Show more

“…In the present study, feeding broilers with CRP up to 4.5% of diet did not affect BWG and FCR of broilers fed on WW-or GW-based diets. The differences in performance responses of broilers to dietary inulin-type fructans may be attributed to several factors, like type of products and their inclusion levels, composition of the basal diet and experimental hygiene conditions (Boguslawska et al 2012). The lack of significant influence of the CRP on final BWG and FCR at 42 days in the present study could be attributed to the composition of the basal diet and for the environmental conditions of experimentation.…”

“…Data about their immunostimulatory effects conferring beneficial role against infections are ancient and not doubted [27,74,75]. Herbal medicines are receiving widespread attentions especially in developing countries because of their antibacterial behaviour and effect to improve performance and product safety in meat production systems [21,54,61,[76][77][78][79][80]. There are growing number of evidences, that complex, bioactive component rich plant extracts increase digestive enzyme secretion, nutrient absorption and decrease feed-togain ratio in meat-type chickens [28,33,40,51,73,[81][82][83][84][85][86][87][88][89][90].…”
