Dielectric studies of metal complexes of thiourea crystals for electro-optic modulation

Abstract: In the present study three crystals of thiourea family viz. Zinc Thiourea Chloride (ZTC), Zinc Thiourea Sulfate (ZTS) and Bisthiourea Cadmium Chloride (BTCC) were grown from aqueous solution by slow evaporation technique. The grown crystals were studied by powder XRD, FT-IR and UV-visible. The dielectric study of grown crystals was carried out in X-band using transmission line wave guide method. It was found that the BTCC has lowest dielectric constant among three metal complexes of thiourea crystals (ZTC, ZTS… Show more

“…The overestimation of value in the theoretical spectra is due to anharmonicity in the real system. Efficient NLO crystals have an optical transparency lower cutoff wavelength between 200 and 400 nm [14]. From the UV-vis spectral analysis it is clear that the cut off wavelength is at 236 nm and there is no significant absorption in the UV region thereby confirming the advantages of the crystals, the large transmission in the entire region and short cutoff wavelength enable the crystals to be useful for second harmonic generation.…”

“…A series of thiourea derivatives bearing ibuprofen moiety N-2-(4-(2-methylpropyl)phenyl)propionoyl-N´-(2´-bromophenyl) thiourea (1), N-2-(4-(2-methylpropyl)phenyl)propionoyl-N´-(2´-chlorophenyl) thiourea (2), N-2-(4-(2-methylpropyl)phenyl)propionoyl-N´-(3´,4´-dichlorophenyl) thiourea (3) and their corresponding complexes of Co(ΙΙ) (4-6), Ni(ΙΙ) (7-9), Pb(ΙΙ) (10)(11)(12) and Cu(Ι) (13)(14)(15) were synthesized and characterized by FTIR and 1 HNMR spectroscopy. The synthesized thiourea derivatives were evaluated for Jack bean urease inhibition activity.…”

“…N, N'-Disubstituted thioureas are of great importance due to their ability to concentrate and separate the toxic metals. Therefore metal complexes of aroyl thiourea are excellent candidates to use as lixiviant, chromogenic ionophore towards fluoride ion detection, in opto-electric modulation, for developing polymer membrane ion-selective e-mail: amaramumtaz@ciit.net.pk electrode and also exhibit great anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-tumor, antiviral, anti-mycobacterial and also posses urease inhibition activities (Arslan et al 2006;D'Cruz OJ 2003;Del CR 2002;Dhumane NR 2006;Moro AC 2009;Sun MZ 2008;Tremblay L 1996). Thioureas and their derivative are considered as very effective inhibitory active agents against the urease enzyme (Aslam MA 2011).…”

“…The FTIR spectrums of pure BTCC and 2 mol% glycine doped BTCC were recorded using Perkin Elmer Spectrum FTIR spectrometer by KBr pallet technique in the range 450-4000 cm -1 and shown in figure 2 and 3 respectively. The characteristic vibrational frequencies of the functional groups of 2 mol% glycine doped BTCC have been compared with pure BTCC and thiourea [18,27,28]. The comparison of characteristic vibrational frequencies has been tabulated in table 1.…”
