Dielectric relaxation of CdO nanoparticles

Abstract: Nanoparticles of cadmium oxide have been synthesized by soft chemical route using thioglycerol as the capping agent. The crystallite size is determined by X-ray diffraction technique and the particle size is obtained by transmission electron microscope. The band gap of the material is obtained using Tauc relation to UV-visible absorption spectrum. The photoluminescence emission spectra of the sample are measured at various excitation wavelengths. The molecular components in the material have been analyzed by F… Show more

“…The absorption edge of the sample was observed at λ ~ 379 nm, suggesting a band gap of E g (eV) = 1240 (eV.nm)/λ (nm) = 1240 eV.nm /379 nm = 3.27 eV. This band gap of 3.27 eV is reflective of the composite nature of the powder obtained as it lies between the band gap values obtained for pure CdO ( E g = 2.36 eV) and CdCO 3 ( E g = 3.87 eV) 19 , 25 , 26 . The absorbance peak observed at 279 nm can be ascribed to water in which particles of the CdO/CdCO 3 composite were dispersed 39 .…”

“…The spectrum reveals absorption bands at around 545.6 cm −1 and 408.1 cm −1 . These bands are due to Cd 2+ -O 2stretching vibrations on tetrahedral and octahedral sites [27][28][29].…”

“…Thus, a position shift probably occurs as the concentration of GeO 2 and CdO changes. At this respect, absorption bands of Cd-O bonds in CdO are reported to appear at 620 cm −1 which is visible only for samples C79 and C80 [22]. In the low wavenumber region, around 500-600 cm −1 , there is an absorption band of symmetric stretching vibrations of Ge─O─Ge at 566 cm −1 [23].…”
