Dielectric Performance of Magneto-Nanofluids for Advancing Oil-Immersed Power Transformer

Abstract: Recently, nanofluids are introduced in the power utilities for the dielectric performance enhancement of power transformer oil. The compactness and fault improvement of the power transformers has resulted in the necessity of next-generation insulating fluid with inflated dielectric properties. This paper investigates the dielectric performance of the novel ester oil-based magnetic nanofluids with different nanoparticles under different electric stress conditions. Two biodegradable fluids used as the base liqui… Show more

“…Hussain et al [122] prepared nanofluids made of NE and SE with Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles of size ranging from 50 to 100 nm. AC-BDV was measured with two electrode systems, mushroom-mushroom (M-M) and sphere-sphere (S-S).…”

“…Hussain et al in the reported study [122] also examined iron phosphide (Fe 3 P) and cobalt (Co 3 O 4 ) nanoparticles mixed with NE and SE. AC-BDV enhancement of NE with Fe 3 P nanoparticles was 19.3% at a concentration 0.004 wt% (M-M electrode system) and 33.5% at the same concentration (S-S electrode system).…”

“…They observed a correlation between the size of NPs and dielectric strength; the smallest NPs give the best improvement on AC BDV. Hussain et al [12] studied the effect of the addition of three NPs (iron oxide ''Fe 3 O 4 '', cobalt oxide ''Co 3 O 4 '', and iron phosphide ''Fe 3 P'') on the insulation performances of synthetic ester and natural ester (NE)-based nanofluids. All the NFs show enhancements in the dielectric strength.…”

“…Several models have been proposed to calculate the relative permittivity of these composite fluids. In this regard, the Maxwell-Garnett model was widely used in the description and measurement of the relative permittivity of DNFs [12], but this model is not considered being sufficient since it is just a function of the concentration and relative permittivities of the constituents. As a result, a model was constructed in [13] based on S-parameter retrieval and considering the scattering of nanoparticles.…”

“…Moreover, a proposed model based on NP polarization was proposed to investigate the relative permittivity of composite fluids [14], and could exhibit more closer results to the experimental ones. However, all these models [12]- [14] did not consider the surfactant polarization. NPs are generally anti-lipophilic and have a tendency to aggregate when they embedded in nanofluids.…”
