New bis[N-(2,6-di-tert-butyl-1-hydroxyphenyl)salicylideneminato]copper(II) complexes bearing HO and CH 3 O substituents on the salicyaldehyde moiety were prepared, and have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR, UV/Vis, ESR spectroscopy, and magnetic moments. It has been found that in the synthesis of CH 3 O substituted complexes unlike HO bearing, the oxidative C±C coupling of coordinated salicylaldimine ligands take place. It has been suggested that the intermolecular H-bonding is a dominant factor in controlling of oxidative C±C coupling conversion. The powder ESR spectra of CH 3 O substituted compounds unlike of HO are typical of a triplet state Cu II dimers with a half-field forbidden (DM = ± 2) and the allowed (DM = ± 1) transitions at 300 and 113 K. Neue Bis[N-(2,6-di-tert-butyl-1-hydroxyphenyl)salicylideneminato]kupfer(II)-Komplexe mit OH-und OCH 3 -Substituenten an der Salicylaldehyd-Einheit wurden hergestellt und durch Elementaranalysen, IR-, UV/Vis-und ESR-Spektroskopie sowie durch magnetische Messungen charakterisiert. Anders als bei den OH-Substituenten wurde mit OCH 3 -Substituenten oxidative C±C-Kupplung beobachtet. Es wird vermutet, daû intermolekulare H-Bindungen ein dominierender Faktor bei der Kontrolle der oxidativen C±C-Kupplung darstellt. Die ESR-Spektren an Pulvern der OCH 3 -substituierten zeigen anders als die OH-substituierten Komplexe Cu II -Dimere im Triplett-Zustand mit einem verbotenen Halbfeld-(DM = ± 2) und einem erlaubten (DM = ± 1)-Ûbergang.

The article aims to present a general outlook of the ongoing peacekeeping operations of the most important international, European and African military and civilian organizations. Peacekeeping has become very important after the independence of African countries because of the continuous conflicts that devastate the war-torn continent. The establishments taking part in this effort include the United Nations, NATO, the European Union and the African Union. After giving a general picture of the nature of the peacekeeping operations, the article goes on one by one each of the organizations to describe their role and participation in the recent peacekeeping activities that characterize the world's landscape now. In the end, the author assesses the situation, gives a comprehensive conclusion and provides some future aspects that he thinks will be probable in the forthcoming years regarding peacekeeping attitudes.
