Diagnostic value of STMN1, LMO2, HGAL, AID expression and 1p36 chromosomal abnormalities in primary cutaneous B cell lymphomas

Abstract: LMO2, HGAL, STMN1 and AID, but not MNDA, are discriminant for the recognition between CFL and CMZL. BCL2, BCL6 rearrangements and the del 1p36 have a role in the pathogenesis of PCFL, the latest being the most common alteration.

“…6,8 The neoplastic lymphocytes in PCFCL express B-cell markers (CD19, CD20, CD22, CD79a, PAX5) and at least one follicle center marker, which is usually BCL6 or, less commonly, CD10 ( Figure 2, D and E). 2,3,12,13,17,20 BCL2 staining is usually absent. 4,12,13,17,18 Ki-67 may reveal a lower proliferation index than usual in reactive follicles and will not show the customary polarization of a reactive follicle.…”

“…Plasma cells are more often polyclonal by testing Immunoglobulin (Ig) light chain immunostains. Myeloid cell nuclear differentiation antigen (MNDA) has recently emerged as a useful marker in MZL, but its diagnostic 40 Primary cutaneous plasmacytoid dendritic cells have been hypothesised to have a diagnostic role, as large clusters have been observed in PC-MZL rather than in reactive B-cell infiltrates. 41 Actually, two groups of PC-MZL are defined on the basis of the expression of surface immunoglobulins: the "class-switched" group expresses IgG or, more rarely, IgA and IgE, and is characterized by a nodular and scattered distribution of B-cells, and many T-cells, mainly Th2.…”
