Abstract: In FN, presepsin may be an earlier and more sensitive indicator of bacterial infection than PCT.

“…11,21 Few studies have evaluated the presepsin levels of patients with hematological malignancies, even though they frequently suffer severe infections or sepsis during the clinical courses of their diseases. 8,12 Among the patients with hematological malignancies examined in the current study, the patients with infections tended to exhibit higher presepsin levels, but the difference was not significant. And presepsin showed lower AUC than PCT (Figure 4).…”

“…Neutropenia was defined as a neutrophil count of <0.5×10 9 /L or a neutrophil count of <1.0×10 9 /L in patients whose neutrophil counts were expected to decline to <0.5×10 9 /L. Fever was defined as an axillary temperature of ≥37.5°C based on a single measurement as previously reported …”

“…However, procalcitonin (PCT) and lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP) presented a promising performance for identifying microbiologically confirmed bacteraemia, which was recently also observed in other neutropenia settings, including paediatric patients [47][48][49]. Presepsin (sCD14) might be used in addition to PCT to detect bacteraemia in these patients, which might have a better discriminatory capacity [49].…”
