“…This observation was again found in this study. As clearly illustrated in Table 3, there was only a 31.8% detection rate for low grade urothelial carcinoma with traditional urine cytology while 100% of high grade urothelial carcinoma detected by urine cytology and these results are similar to results of [20,21].…”

“…The present study is, to our knowledge, the first report of the efficacy of 5‐ALA‐induced fluorescent selective upper urinary tract urinary cytology for the diagnosis of UTUC. According to a past systematic review and meta‐analysis, the sensitivity of conventional selective upper tract urinary cytology is 53.1%, specifically, 45.6% for low‐grade tumors and 69.9% for high‐grade tumors . In the present study, 5‐ALA‐induced fluorescent selective upper tract urinary cytology was more sensitive (90.4%) than conventional selective upper tract urinary cytology (60.3%), regardless of patient age, sex, pT stage and tumor grade.…”

“…We observed that if cytology cases with an either suspicious or positive for HGUC interpretation were considered as positive, we achieved almost 80% sensitivity in detecting HGUC with a specificity of over 90%. According to a recent meta‐analysis, the overall sensitivity and specificity of UUT cytology for detection of HGUC were 70% (95% CI: 56%‐81%) and 90% (95% CI: 85%‐93%), respectively . All these data were based non‐TPS cytology reporting system .…”

“…However, the value of UUT urinary cytology remains controversial. According to a recent review and meta‐analysis of the literature, although the overall specificity of selective UUT urinary cytology in diagnosing urothelial carcinoma was 90% with a range of 77%‐97%, the overall sensitivity was only 53% with a range of 21%‐77% …”
