Diagnostic and prognostic values of upregulated SPC25 in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

Abstract: Background Spindle pole body component 25 (SPC25) plays a vital role in many cellular processes, such as tumorigenesis. However, the clinical significance of SPC25 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has not been investigated. This study aimed to explore the expression patterns of SPC25 in HCC and non-neoplastic tissues and to investigate the diagnostic and prognostic values of SPC25. Method The expression of SPC25 was examined in 374 HCC iss… Show more

“…Despite the great advances in imaging techniques, surgical resection, percutaneous ablation, radiotherapy, and liver transplantation, the 5-year survival rate of HCC remains less than 20% because of the high postoperative recurrence rate and metastasis [5,6]. During the pathogenesis and progression of HCC, the expression of numerous genes has been aberrantly changed, including the activation of oncogenes and inactivation of tumor suppressor genes [7,8]. erefore, exploring more novel effective biomarkers for early diagnosis and precise prognostic prediction is urgently required.…”

“…Elevated expression of the NDC80 complex components, NDC80/Nuf2/SPC24/SPC25, predicts poor survival in HCC [ 22 ]. Recent literature reported that overexpression of SPC25 was related to poor prognosis of HCC via promoting tumor growth and metastasis [ 23 , 24 ]. However, the detailed expression status of SPC25 in HCCC and the biological function of SPC25 in HCC cells remain unclear.…”

“…The protein encoded by SPC25 was involved in kinetochore-microtubule interaction and spindle checkpoint function. Previous studies have shown that SPC25 upregulation increases CSCs properties and predicted poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma, breast cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma and head and neck cancer [46][47][48][49][50].In this study, we innovatively found that SPC25 was highly related to COAD stem cell properties. No studies have found the role of SPC25 in colon cancer.…”
