Diagnostic accuracy of molecular testing with three molecular markers on thyroid fine‐needle aspiration cytology with abnormal category

Abstract: BackgroundCases with abnormal category, determined by thyroid fine‐needle aspiration (FNA), frequently undergo surgical resection, despite the majority of cases being identified as benign after resection. Additional diagnostic markers are needed to guide the management of patients with abnormal thyroid nodules.Materials and MethodsThe retrospective study enrolled 150 cases diagnosed abnormal by FNA cytology that had undergone molecular testing with three markers (BRAF V600E, NRAS, and KRAS) on the cell block. … Show more

“…29 In summary, LBC specimens from the thyroid and lymph nodes demonstrated several recurrent mutations using a customized cancer gene panel of 28 genes, as previously reported. 30 Therefore, residual LBC specimens from the solid organs such as the thyroid gland and lymph node would be very useful for molecular testing of cancers. As…”

“…Bipolar coagulation is appreciated for a clear surgical field and small trauma. However, the difficulty of treatment due to the surgical site and the high psychological pressure of the patients may hinder the prognosis without proper nursing intervention [ 7 , 8 ]. Nursing interventions can effectively reduce risk events, improve self-management efficacy, and alleviate adverse emotions of thyroid cancer patients, leading to fewer adverse reactions [ 9 ].…”

“…Of note, genetic alterations are detected in approximately 90% of papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTCs), and more than 60% of thyroid malignancies [ 13 - 22 ]. Therefore, in order to further risk-stratify patients with indeterminate thyroid cytology diagnoses, molecular studies have been utilized to detect genetic alterations and play an important role in the therapeutic triage of thyroid lesions [ 13 , 14 ]. Molecular tests demonstrate a high negative predictive value (92%-96%) in thyroid nodules [ 13 , 14 , 23 ].…”
