“…For instance, Hoff man and Haddad [10] were able to detect by radio-im munoassay IgE antibody against /i-lactoglobulin in only a few milk-sensitive patients' sera. And Kletteret al [I I], using a similar technique, failed to detect IgE antibodies against /J-lactoglobulin in the circulations of a group of infants under I year of age who had been fed cow's milk.…”

“…After further washing in 0.15 M NaCI, the discs were placed in plastic tubes (16 x 125 mm (17)), and the radioactivity bound to the discs was determined in a Nuclear Chicago Ultrascaler I1 gamma counter. Disintegrations per minute were compared with standard controls according to the method of Hoffman and Haddad (4). In this procedure, the nonspecific binding of lZSI-anti-lgE was determined for each type of allergen disc without prior incubation with serum.…”

“…Seafood, including Crustacea, are among the most frequently mentioned foods which are claimed to cause adverse reactions in food-sensitive individuals [1][2][3][4][5]. Adverse reactions to foods may be mediated by nonimmunologic mechanisms, such as natural toxins, contaminants and preservatives present in the food, as well as by immunologic mechanisms [3].…”
