“…Exhaled nitric oxide has shown to be efficient in guiding medication management, as a reduction of 20% in exhaled NO is considered indicative of a response to anti‐inflammatory therapy . However, no significant advantage was seen with the specific use of exhaled NO‐driven protocols to guide asthma treatment compared with other methods, and according to GINA guidelines, treatment of asthmatic children usually relies on symptoms reported by the child and/or guardians. Furthermore, correlations between airway inflammation and symptoms, asthma control and asthma severity are weak or absent .…”

“…For allergic patients, data were also collected from their preoperative clinical reports concerning their total and specific IgE for Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus and Dermatophagoides farinae , birch pollen, pellitory, grass mix, cat and dog dander, Alternaria alternata , Aspergillus fumigatus , and common ragweed. The diagnosis of asthma was based on reversible signs of obstruction during spirometry with methacholine challenge, according to the definition of the Global Initiative on Asthma . Asthma was defined as extrinsic when associated with allergy, or intrinsic when presenting with no known allergic origin.…”
