Developmental Profile of Enzyme Activity in Several Tissues of the C57BL/6 Mouse between Birth and 35 Days of Age

Abstract: The activity of 19 liver enzymes as well as the level of activity of a lesser number of enzymes in brain, kidney and heart tissue was measured in C57BL/6 mice at various ages between birth and 35 days. Several enzymes were present at significant levels in the liver at earlier ages than reported for rat liver. The time course of the development, the magnitude of the charges and the direction of the changes are often significantly different from the profiles observed in rat tissues, thus the mouse may respond di… Show more

“…These differences are also larger than would be expected simply by the reduced growth rate of the c3H/c 6H mice [34]. The enzyme developmental profile in the control mice is similar to that previously reported for C57BL/6 mice [35].…”

“…The animals in experiment one were 12 weeks of age when sacrificed, while the animals in experiments two and three were 7 weeks of age. I t has been suggested that some of the differences seen in absolute activities might be due to age (Burkhart et al, 1978;Knox, 1972), but this was 24 Fig. 4.…”
