“…No evidence for such stimulation was seen with RCR2011. These data are consistent with previous work suggesting an influence of the bacterial partner on the nodule meristematic activity (Sagan & Gresshoff, 1996; Tirichine et al. , 2000; Laguerre et al.…”

“…This hypothesis is supported by our further study. Shoot-controlled supernodulating mutants sym28 and sym29, producing 5-10 times more nodules than wild-type plants (nodule number sym29 4 sym28 4 wild type; Duc and Messager, 1989;Sagan and Duc, 1996;Sagan and Gresshoff, 1996), induced a stronger inhibitory response than wild type (Figure 4). Since AON signalling is initiated at an earlier stage than cell division in pea, we propose that this systemic signal transduction pathway may be activated by a substance required for inducing, or being part of, the eukaryotic cell cycle, and that this precursor is generated in cortical/pericycle cells prior to visible cell divisions.…”

“…Sym28 (possibly homologous to LjKlavier) and Sym29 (homologous to GmNARK) function through the shoot (Duc and Messager, 1989;Sagan and Duc, 1996;Sagan and Gresshoff, 1996;Oka-Kira et al, 2005) while Nod3 acts on the root (Jacobsen and Feenstra, 1984;Postma et al, 1988;Borisov et al, 2007).…”

“…Singh et al ( 1997 ) reported an induced mutant which had a greater number of dry weights of nodules with higher yield, when compared with the parent in black gram. Sagan and Gresshoff ( 1996 ) reported a super-nodulating mutant of soybean which was characterized by a faster appearance of nodules and a more extensive nodule distribution over the root system.…”
