“…An interesting overview about them can be found elsewhere [3]. Especially, Si and Ti based oxides, carbides or borides have focused much attention in the last years to be used as electrocatalyst supports for fuel cell applications, achieving promising results in terms of durability and performance [6][7][8][9].…”

“…The TGA curves in Figure before and after modification under air shows that the weight loss of SiC is about 1% in the range of 0–500°C without any remarkable exothermic or endothermic peak up to temperature 500°C, and it is mainly due to the loss of absorbed water or moisture. At 700°C, oxidation occurred rapidly, and when the temperature was further raised, a more gradual increase in mass was observed . On the other hand, the TGA curve of nZVI‐SiC shows a weight loss at low temperatures (up to 200°C) followed by a weight increase in the temperature range of 200–600°C.…”

“…Such modifications increased functionality and allowed the particles to be preferentially adsorbed chemically or physically on the surface or the interface. Pt nano particles, poly (vinyl alcohol) and mesoporous carbon have been reported as fascinating and progressing agents for the functionalizing of silicon carbide nano particles . Silicon carbide nanoparticles used as adsorbent for solid phase extraction of Pb 2+ and determination by flame atomic absorption spectrometry is another example of the application of silicon carbide in adsorption process .…”

“…You et al synthesized OMC-SiC composites as a support for Pt by a controlled carbothermal reduction process to utilize both the ordered mesopores of OMC and the high electrochemical stability of the SiC materials. 78 The ORR current density using Pt/OMC-SiC shows negligible change (0.16%) aer 1000 cycles, while the ORR current density using commercial Pt/C decreases by 33.4%. The improvement is attributed to a strong interaction of platinum and Si atom on the surface of carbon frameworks, which makes the catalyst more electrochemically stable.…”
