Development of Short Form of the Korean Version- the Boston Naming Test (K-BNT-15) Based on Item Response Theory

Abstract: Impaired naming difficulty is common in normal elderly as well as in patients with neurological impairment. The 60-item Korean version-Boston Naming Test(K-BNT) is one of the most commonly used test for measuring confrontational naming ability. However, age-related cognitive decline may make the elderly difficult concentrating during the 60-item test, therefore, item reduction of the K-BNT would improve test validity and reliability. Thus, the purpose of this study was to develop a short form of the K-BNT base… Show more

“…We focused on the BDI scores of the two scales to establish whether somatic symptoms prevail in narcoleptic patients: the general depressive symptoms and somatic symptoms subscales (impaired sleep, somatic symptoms, fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, and loss of libido) 25,26. The following cognitive domains tests were also administered: 1) for executive functions, the Wisconsin Card-Sorting Test,27 the Stroop test,28 the Controlled Oral Word Association Test (COWAT),29 and Raven's Colored Progressive Matrices;30 and 2) for verbal functions, the Korean version of the Boston Naming Test (KBNT) 31…”

“…Both HE individuals and elderly individuals with cognitive impairment show some degree of naming difficulty. Comprehensive research on naming ability in HE individuals has revealed that the elderly face more difficulty in picture naming tasks than young adults do [17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24]. While elderly patients with dementia perform considerably more poorly on the BNT than cognitively healthy elderly individuals do, results on the differences in performance between individuals with MCI and HE individuals are equivocal.…”
