Development of Rapid SPECT Acquisition Protocol for Myocardial Perfusion Imaging

Abstract: Abstract-Advances in reconstruction techniques and instrumentation improve image quality. Improved image quality could either improve confidence and diagnostic ability, or increase throughput, and lower injected dose. Current imaging guidelines give insuffient consideration to advances in iterative reconstruction methods that include collimator modeling, attenuation, and scatter correction, and best matched acquisitions. Thus advanced reconstruction is often sub-optimally used in a clinical setting. In this wo… Show more

“…For conventional SPECT, the detectors were placed close to the patient in a body-contour mode, whereas for IQÁSPECT, rotation of the detectors was circular with a 28-cm radius and centered on the heart (12). SPECT images are routinely reconstructed with 3-dimensional iterative algorithms (22) and with an additional correction for the geometry of the astigmatic collimator for IQÁSPECT (23,24).…”

“…However, using this data for generating multiple count reduced derivatives by angular extraction and binomial subsampling seems to be an adequate and simple approach for creating a population of data sets. In addition, the processing tool dedicated for real data sets in DICOM-format provides capabilities for use in clinical research applied to patient data in retrospective studies [15].…”

“…50 SPECT cardiac acquisition protocols (CardioFlash) have been developed utilizing Flash3D, where the acquisition time can be reduced to between 33% and 50%, as compared to the standard acquisition protocols with FBP reconstruction. An example of the image quality obtained with CardioFlash is shown in phantoms ( Figure 19) and in clinical images (Figure 20).…”
