“…The polycentric character of Ostrava city with less dense building pattern and wide streets from industrialisation era development significantly determines distances in the city and also a parameter such as walking distance. On the contrary, Olomouc as an example of a compact historical city has denser urbanisation (Burian, Brus, Voženílek, 2013) inducing shorter walking distances to a preferred public transport stop. The issue moreover strengthens the influence of different types of urbanisation that more areas were classified as a suburb in Ostrava (27%) than in Olomouc with only 13%.…”

“…The particular task of design, development and usability of maps for persons with visual impairment is based on the actual needs of these persons (Ungar, Jehoel, Mccallum& Rowell, 2005). The general principles of development of maps for persons with visual impairment are crucial when preparing such maps (Vondráková, Vávra & Voženílek, 2013;Burian, Brus & Voženílek, 2013). The principles are: the overall slipperiness of the material surface, the factors concerning the health risks of the material used, the suitability of the material for touching, the possibility to wash the material which is connected with hygiene conditions of its usage and the necessity to carry out a survey of usefulness and purposefulness of the map which is actually being prepared (Dvorský, Snášel & Voženílek, 2009).…”

“…The Olomouc region has been analysed many times before. An analysis of the historical development of this area was described by Burian, Brus, and Vozenilek (2013); methods of visualization of input data were elaborated upon by Burian and Šťávová (2009), Burian, Brychtová, Vávra, and Hladišová (2016), and Burian, Brychtová, and Vávra (2015). However, none of these studies focused on land suitability and scenario modelling for future planning purposes, which are described in this paper.…”
