Development of nanolubricant based on impregnated multilayer graphene for automotive applications: Analysis of tribological properties

Abstract: This paper shows novel formulations of nanolubricants added with multi-layer graphene (MLG), multilayer graphene impregnated with copper (MLG-Cu), and multi-layer graphene impregnated with polyaniline (MLG-PANI) for applications in automotive engines. These nanofluids were prepared using commercial motor oil as the base fluid. The tribological properties were measured at 100 °C, and significant reductions were found in the coefficient of friction and wear. The concentrations used were 0.5% and 2% by weight, ob… Show more

“…Another method of producing graphene which has received considerable attention is exfoliation and reduction or heating of GIO. Ramón-Raygoza et al [56] used this method to produce multilayer graphene and multilayer graphene impregnated with copper. These materials were used in preparing nanofluids for commercial motor oil.…”

“… The data are important and useful because the reuse potential of the dataset includes calculating Reynolds number for further flow studies; heat transfer performance studies of nanofluids; lubrication and lubricants’ development studies [2] , [3] , [4] , [5] and characteristics of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids [6] . The data can benefit engineers, researchers and scientists working in the fields of energy, thermofluids, power systems, energy storage, materials, cooling, heating and lubrication.…”

“…[3,4]. Gr nanosheets and platelets, due to their layered crystal structure, have been extensively used as lubricant additives to enhance the tribological performance [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. Gr being lightweight, impermeable, atomically thin, wear-resistant, mechanically strong, and inert, is one of the most sought-after materials for a composite coating.…”
