Development of MMT-based broadcasting system for hybrid delivery

Abstract: An UHDTV broadcasting system employing MPEG Media Transport (MMT) as its media transport protocol has been proposed for hybrid delivery of content. On the basis of this proposal, an MMT-based UHDTV broadcasting system has already been standardized and is being developed in Japan. This paper describes the structure of that system. The system supports hybrid delivery and has mechanisms to carry Universal Time Coordinated (UTC) information to eliminate clock drift between the sender and receiver. We evaluated the… Show more

“…In [31] and [32], the usage of MMT (MPEG Media Transport) standard [33] in hybrid delivery systems is explained. MMT is out of the scope of this paper, as the presented platform is compliant with the HbbTV specification and not with the MMT one.…”

“…Therefore, the control of illuminance and correlated color temperature (CCT) of lighting suitable for such a UHD TV broadcasting system is significant. [1][2][3] Sunlight and the indoor/ outdoor lighting required to recognize objects have different illuminance and CCT. If the illuminance of the subject of a photograph and the CCT of the environment are mismatched, the color of video images reproduced by a camera is expressed entirely differently.…”

“…Therefore, depending on the subject and background, the camera's white balance or lighting CCT should be adjusted. 3,4 The Δuv, which expresses the difference in chromaticity on the isotherm from the blackbody locus, is an essential factor in color expression. In addition, even though the color rendering of the light source is the same, color reproducibility is expressed differently when the color rendering properties are different.…”
