This study discovered the model of families' function empowerment towards laid-off workers through the utilization of house yard during the COVID-19 pandemic. The target of this new model is establishing the family function in utilizing the house yard during COVID-19 pandemic. This new model can be used as a future reference for families who are affected by termination of employment. Research activities are carried out through qualitative exploration and experimental research. The study objectives consisted of: (1) determining the potential and development of existing human resources or the frequency of occurrence of certain aspects of social phenomena; and (2) describing certain social phenomena in detail. The findings are expected to create a model for families' function empowerment for families of laid-off workers through the utilization of home yards. Moreover, the model also includes a product such as video and illustrated pocket book, which contains families' function empowerment model. The results can be used by all family members during the pandemic and post-COVID-19 pandemics. As a result, the family function can be massively implemented by laid-off worker family members to strengthen the family bonds, in addition to making the yard beautiful and productive.

Using a pre- and post-test design, this study examined the changes in empathy skills, life satisfaction, and relationship quality among mainland Chinese adolescents (ages 13–15 years) and their mothers ( N = 108 dyads) following an empathy training intervention. Participants completed a 20-day empathy training, including two in-person group training sessions and daily journals on assigned topics. Participants’ mother-child relationship quality, mother-child conflict, life satisfaction, and empathy skills were measured three times, and selected participants were interviewed to explore their experience of the training. The research procedure followed protocols that were approved by an Institutional Review Board. ANOVAs were used to examine quantitative data and inductive analysis was used for qualitative data. The findings suggest that after the training, both adolescents and mothers reported significant benefits in mother-child relationship quality and life satisfaction. However, participants’ empathy skills (i.e., perspective taking and empathic concern skills) did not change. Possible mechanisms of the observed changes included the empathy skills (e.g., perspective taking skills) learned through the training and the reciprocal nature of positive changes within the mother-child dyad. The current study suggests that empathy training may benefit adolescents and their mothers, both within the relationship and in their general life satisfaction.

The Family Empowerment Post (Posdaya) has been running as a model for implementing community development, especially in rural areas in the fields of education, health and economy. However, mostly it still provides the minimum service standard and has not been able to reach the maximum standard in terms of transfer of knowledge and skills to the community. Therefore, the aim of this research is to design an empowerment program for public education including supporting the prevention of the Covid-19 pandemic. Using a qualitative case study method, informants were selected purposively from the village government, Posdaya administrators, community leaders and entrepreneurial groups. Data collection was carried out through observation, interviews, discussion and documentation. Triangulation is used as verification of the data that has been collected. The findings show that a responsive, productive and innovative empowerment program in the form of informal and vocational learning is really necessary as a medium to increase motivation, knowledge, and entrepreneurial skill of communities based on local resources to maintain the welfare and the health of families and villagers especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
