Development of Critical Thinking Skill Instruments on Mathematical Learning High School

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to develop instruments of critical thinking skills that meet the validity, reliability, and criteria for good items. This research includes development research which consists of the design and implementation stages. The analysis in the study used quantitative analysis with the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) Technique. The results showed that the value of t value> 1.96 (α <0.05) which means that each significant item measures critical thinking skills. The value of person reliab… Show more

“…Based on the reliability scale (α = 0.89), the open-ended form was more effective than others, such as multiple choice only 0.78 (Hwang & Chen, 2017). Similar results found by Harjo, Kartowagiran, & Mahmudi (2019), the internal reliability with the open-ended format of their study shows α = 0.94. Besides that, through open-ended tests, we can explore, explain or confirm students' knowledge more deeply than any other test.…”

“…A limited research has been recently conducted to develop and assess critical thinking skills of students in the specific content knowledge such as mathematics (Harjo, Kartowagiran, & Mahmudi, 2019;Kuş & Çakıroğlu, 2020), chemistry (Reynders et al, 2020;Sadhu & Laksono, 2018), physics (Asysyifa, Jumadi, Wilujeng, & Kuswanto, 2019;Mabruroh & Suhandi, 2017), and science (Mapeala & Siew, 2015;Sya'bandari, Firman, & Rusyati, 2017). At primary level, such a study by Mapeala and Siew (2015) developed a science critical thinking test to measure the critical thinking skills of the fifth-grade students in the theme of physical sciences.…”

“…This is in line with the opinion which states that literacy is a capability that is very important in dealing with everyday problems. Characteristics of an individual who has good literacy skills include being able to understand and read graphs, tables, diagrams, able to interpret mathematical abilities in everyday life in various contexts (Harjo et al, 2019;Pamungkas, 2017). Sometimes, students interested to read the book with some visualization or colorful texting.…”
