Development of coated-wire silver ion selective electrodes on paper using conductive films of silver nanoparticles

Abstract: Films of silver nanoparticles are used for the first time as an electrical conductor and ion-to-electron transducer to fabricate coated-wire ion selective electrodes (ISEs) on paper. The film of nano silver ink (nano silver film), synthesized from the reduction of AgNO3 by NaBH4, was screen printed on paper. Transmission electron microscopy showed that the synthesized silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) possessed a spherical shape with diameter ca. 5 nm. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy supported the purity and g… Show more

“…50 The paper based substrates are commonly available, cost effective, environment friendly, recyclable, lightweight and can be tailor made into any 3D congurations. 10,[51][52][53] Among various printing techniques, direct-writing approach is a simple and cost-effective method for constructing desired conductive patterns on paper based substrates for various exible electronics applications by a single-step process. To draw such hybrid printed paper electronics circuits on paper substrates, it is necessary to make low resistance electrical interconnects between the conductive components.…”

“…9), and has lower detection limit of 1.0 × 10 À 9 M. The increasing the concentration of ionophore, plasticizer and NaTBP do not have significant effect on linear concentration range, LOD and slope of calibration curve (electrode no. 10,11,12,13,14). Hence the electrode no.…”

“…Several methods including flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS), inductively-coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), Voltammetry, and gravimetric etc. [6][7][8][9][10] have been used for the determination of silver in various samples, but all these methods are either time consuming, required large infrastructure and involving some sample manipulations. Several potentiometric silver selective electrodes based on PVC membrane or carbon paste electrodes have been constructed by different workers, however most of these reported electrodes have narrow concentration range, high detection limit; slow response mechanism [11][12][13][14][15].…”
