Development of an in vitro model to study clot lysis activity of thrombolytic drugs

Abstract: Background: Thrombolytic drugs are widely used for the management of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis patients. Several in vitro models have been developed to study clot lytic activity of thrombolytic drugs, but all of these have certain limitations. There is need of an appropriate model to check the clot lytic efficacy of thrombolytic drugs. In the present study, an attempt has been made to design and develop a new model system to study clot lysis in a simplified and easy way using a thrombolytic drug, strept… Show more

“…Currently available thrombolytic agents are streptokinase (SK), tissue plasminogen activator (t‐PA), and urokinase (UK). They might cause serious bleeding complications along with reinfection and reoccolution and therefore secure and effective thrombolytic agents that can lyse a blood clot are desirable (Prasad et al., 2006). …”

“…Clot lysis activity was checked using different mushrooms extracts and fractions (Prasad et al., 2006). The streptokinase was used as a positive control for in vitro clot lysis.…”

“…Fármacos trombolíticos são úteis no tratamento de patologias, como trombose venosa cerebral (7). Algumas espécies vegetais já foram investigadas sob este ponto de vista, tais como Bacopa monnieri, Fagonia arabica e Cestrum diurnum, mas ainda não está estabelecido se há correlação de algum grupo químico que desempenhe tal atividade (8)(9).…”

“…After incubation, fluid released was removed and tubes were again weighed to observe the difference in weight after clot disruption. Difference in weight before and after clot lysis was expressed as percentage of clot lysis (Prasad et al, 2006). Evaluation of cardioprotective effects of both of methanolic extracts are exhibited by the equation as shown below:…”
