Abstract: This study examined an instrument measuring the salience of an individual's identification with exercise as an integral part of the concept of self. The 9-item Exercise Identity Scale was given to 51 college students. Test-retest reliability (1 wk.) was .93 and Cronbach alpha. 94. “…In the present study a coefficient alpha estimate of .92 was found. In terms of validity, Anderson and Cychosz (1994) reported a correlation of .68 between scores on the EIS and the number of weeks persons reported having engaged in exercise. Anderson, Cychosz, and Frank (1998) reported significant positive relationships between scores on the EIS and the number of weeks participants reported exercising, frequency of exercise per week, and exercise intensity.…”

“…Scores on the EIS have been shown to demonstrate adequate reliability. Anderson and Cychosz (1994) reported a coefficient alpha of .94 and a test-retest reliability of .93 over a period of one week. In the present study a coefficient alpha estimate of .92 was found.…”

(Wigfield & Cambria, 2010) *Cost-I will take time away from other everyday activities in order to exercise (e.g., school, work, friends, having fun).…”
