Development of an Accurate Resonant Frequency Controlled Wire Ultrasound Surgical Instrument

Abstract: Our developed wire ultrasound surgical instrument comprises a bolt-clamped Langevin ultrasonic transducer (BLUT) fabricated by PMN-PZT single crystal material due to high mechanical quality factor and electromechanical coupling coefficient, a waveguide in the handheld instrument, and a generator instrument. To ensure high performance of wire ultrasound surgical instruments, the BLUT should vibrate at an accurate frequency because the BLUT’s frequency influences hemostasis and the effects of incisions on blood … Show more

“…As a result, the outputs of the amplifier and BWE circuit-equipped amplifier were measured and compared. The voltage gain is a performance indicator for measuring the performance of an amplifier, and its high output helps to provide a clear ultrasound image [ 44 , 45 , 46 ]. In addition, the bandwidth of the gain over frequency of the amplifier only and the amplifier equipped with the BWE circuit can be compared.…”

“…Additionally, the pulse signal from the dynamic pulser has certain frequency characteristics, and a feedback route can be formed through the capacitor to block the DC signal used in the amplifier; thus, the distributed signal is minimized and the feedback route is blocked by using CC1 and high values of RC1. RC2 and RC3 are appropriately selected to have the reference voltage V REF to ensure stable operation and prevent oscillation [ 37 ]. V GG is used to provide stable DC voltage used in the comparator, dynamic pulser, and gate of the power amplifier.…”
