Development of Amplifier Circuit by Active-Dummy Method for Atmospheric Corrosion Monitoring in Steel Based on Strain Measurement

Abstract: This paper describes an amplifier circuit fabricated by the active-dummy method for atmospheric corrosion monitoring based on strain measurement. The circuit was used to determine the relationship between the voltage and strain. Experiments involving the thickness reduction of low-carbon steel test pieces induced by galvanostatic electrolysis were carried out with the amplifier circuit. The circuit was capable of accurately measuring signals induced by the thickness reduction of the test piece. Moreover, the c… Show more

“…The gain of the strain measurement circuit using the gain resistor (R G ) of 4 Ω with the active dummy method was 12,500. The relationship between the voltage and strain in the master curve was measured [31]. Using the R G of 4 Ω, relationship between the strain and voltage was linear, following the equation ∆ε = -11 + 27 ∆V, where ∆V is the output voltage of the strain measurement circuit before it is converted to ∆ε.…”

“…Atmospheric corrosion can change the physical and chemical properties of the metals as well as weaken the usefulness of construction materials. If the damage accumulation induced by atmospheric corrosion cannot be detected timely, the structural safety will be threatened, and the damage may finally cause partial destruction or even the whole loss of structural function, resulting in huge economic losses and casualty (Chen and Xu, 2007; Cowell and Apsimon, 1996; Purwasih et al, 2018).…”
