Development of a Portable, Reliable and Low-Cost Electrical Impedance Tomography System Using an Embedded System

Abstract: Electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is a useful procedure with applications in industry and medicine, particularly in the lungs and brain area. In this paper, the development of a portable, reliable and low-cost EIT system for image reconstruction by using an embedded system (ES) is introduced herein. The novelty of this article is the hardware development of a complete low-cost EIT system, as well as three simple and efficient algorithms that can be implemented on ES. The proposed EIT system applies the adj… Show more

“…In this work, we focus on the design of a general method of response acquisition, but we maintain the tomographic imaging static. The EIT measurements in an electrolyte tank system is an important phase in the development of tomographic devices and methods and it is an element continuously present in the EIT literature, for example, in the recent works [ 36 , 37 ]. The use of tanks is fundamental for modeling and testing tomographic algorithms, given that the shape of the surface and the electrode locations are stable.…”

“…To program the ARM microcontroller through the native USB port (serial port), the Arduino IDE employs an Arduino-specific programming language that is equivalent to the C++ programming language [49]. The following are some of the most significant advantages of utilizing this microcontroller: it has a 12-bit resolution for its two peripherals, DAC0 and DAC1.…”

“…This electrical model/circuit and tested by MATLAB for the comparison with the results obtained in similar to normal ECG waveforms for these generated results to be useful in clinical trials. The result is a simple electrical circulation that contains large electrical parameters converted from hydraulic models and physical therapies [10,[24][25]. Improved The MATLAB-based mathematical model will help first understand the function of the artificial heart and ECG signals performed.…”
