Development and validation studies for determination of phenylpropanoid‐substituted flavan‐3‐ols in semipurified extract of Trichilia catigua by high‐performance liquid chromatography with photodiode array detection

Abstract: The phenolic compounds are the main phytochemical constituents of the bark of Trichilia catigua and are commonly used for medicinal purposes. An HPLC method for the simultaneous quantification of phenolic compounds (procyanidin B2 (PB2), epicatechin (EPC), chinchonains Ia, Ib, IIa, IIb, catechin, and chrologenic acid) in T. catigua extract was developed and validated. A suitable chromatographic system was selected, which uses a gradient elution with methanol/ACN (75:25), and water both with 0.05% TFA, as mobil… Show more

“…The quality of the EAF was evaluated by measuring the amounts of procyanidin B2 (PB2) and epicatechin (EPC) in this fraction against analytical standards by HPLC analysis (Thermo ® , San Jose, CA, USA), according to a method developed and validated by our group, as previously described [16]. These standards were chosen for validation because they were available in the appropriate quantities at the laboratory.…”

“…The drugs derived from plants naturally vary in their chemical composition, mainly due to climate and others (Kutchan, 2001), so the quality control of the plant raw material is important for monitoring the different lots to maintain quality (Longhini et al, 2013). The presence and the proportion of the chemical constituents are ensured by the quality control and facilitate future studies like bioavailability.…”
