Development and Testing of Improved Efficiency Boron-Enriched Diammonium Phosphate Fertilizers

Abstract: The application of boron (B) fertilizers is challenging due to the high solubility of commonly used B compounds, the small requirement by crops, and the narrow range between toxicity and deficiency levels for plants. The application of a B-only fertilizer without a macronutrient carrier is inefficient due to the high cost of double handling and the poor distribution of the micronutrient in the field. An improved efficiency B fertilizer is proposed using a wax-or elemental sulfur (ES)-coated core of granulated … Show more

“…Ca and B (Karthika et al, 2020) [59] . Accordingly, in soil nutrients which are present in anionic condition are mostly mobile like NO 3 -, SO 4 2-, BO 3 3-, Clalong with a exception of Mn 2+ (Samreen et al, 2021) [102] . In soil Less mobile plant nutrients are NH 4 + , K + , Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , Cu 2+ (Klimczyk et al, 2021) [62] .…”

“…The results of another 155 field experiments conducted in China from 2008 to 2011 presented an average yield increase of 6.5% due to S fertilizer application [18]. However, the application of an S-only fertilizer is often not practiced in agricultural production due to the high handling costs involved and poor distribution in the field [19]. Adding S fertilizer into macronutrient fertilizers such as phosphate fertilizers could address these concerns and has gained widespread attention in the research field [20][21][22].…”

“…colemanite (Ca2B6O11•5H2O) and ulexite (NaCaB5O9•8H2O), has been suggested (Broschat, 2008;Saleem et al, 2011) and various fertilizer formulations have been developed, e.g. colemanite/ulexite co-granulated with muriate of potash (da Silva et al, 2018), sintered colemanite pellets (Flores et al, 2006) and wax/sulfur-coated colemanite within a pellet of diammonium phosphate (Samreen et al, 2021). In addition to naturally-occurring B minerals, also synthetic slow-release B materials have been developed, e.g.…”
