Development and nitrate reductase activity of sugarcane inoculated with five diazotrophic strains

Abstract: Diazotrophs are able to stimulate plant growth. This study aimed at evaluating the effect of inoculation of five diazotrophic strains on growth promotion and nitrate reductase (NR, EC 1.7.1.1) activity in sugarcane. An experiment was carried out from three stages of cultivation: sprouting, tubes, and in hydroponics. On the first two stages, seven treatments were adopted: uninoculated control; mixed inoculation with five strains; and individual inoculation with Gluconacetobacter diazotrophicus (Gd), Herbaspiril… Show more

“…This study was coincident with the previous researcher of Singh, Singh [57] that whether it was a disease resistance experiment or a healthy soil planting experiment, the bio-organic fertilizer obtained by the OST method could have the same effect of disease-resisting and growth-promoting as it obtained by the traditional method. In addition, dos Santos, da Silva Ribeiro [58] reported, and was also verified in the present study, that the activity of nitrate reductase was associated with the content of total nitrogen which could be increased with the enhanced activity of nitrate reductase.…”

“…Interestingly, Coenye et al reported that Burkholderia, which is closely related to Paraburkholderia, displays NO 2 − -producing activity 21 . However, Paraburkholderia is not reported yet to exist in the oral cavity, but is reported to be detected in plants 22 . Food debris in samples may contain this bacterium in this study.…”

“…Atmospheric nitrogen fixation by sugarcane was assumed to have occurred when the δ 15 N difference between the average value of the reference plant and the sugarcane leaf value was > 2‰ (Freitas et al 2015, Dos Santos et al 2017. estimates of the proportion of plant nitrogen derived from the atmosphere (%Ndfa) were made using the 15 N natural abundance technique and the formula recommended by Shearer and Kohl (1986):…”
