Development and Characterization of Novel Medicated Hydrogels for Wound Dressing

Abstract: □ The medicated hydrogels were prepared aseptically under moist heat treatment using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), sodium-carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), polyethyleneglycol (PEG), agar, glycerin and/or boric acid (BA) and designated as PVP-CMC and PVP-CMC-BA. The aim of this study was to develop some medicinal values-based hydrogels. BA was used to build up the medicinal values (antiseptic and antimicrobial properties) within the hydrogels. Optical images, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier transform … Show more

“…The experiments were carried out using the freshly prepared and swelled hydrogels (the dry hydrogel films were swollen for 60 min in distilled water), and designated as "fresh" and "swelled" hydrogels respectively for both PVP-CMC and PVP-CMC-BA. In our previous articles we had established that after 60 min of swelling from dry state, the hydrogels regain quite similar properties with the fresh hydrogels [3,4]. The optical view of the hydrogels (fresh, dry and swelled) is shown in Figure 1.…”

“…PVP-CMC and PVP-CMC-BA hydrogels were prepared using moist heat treatment using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), polyethylene glycol (PEG), agar, and glycerin, without or with boric acid (BA), respectively [3][4][5]. The composition of PVP-CMC and PVP-CMC-BA are depicted in Table 1.…”
