Development and Application of the Multiwell Productivity Index (MPI)

Abstract: In this article we generalize the concept of the pseudosteady-state productivity index for the case of multiple wells producing from or injecting into a closed rectangular reservoir of constant thickness. The work complements the analytical study by Rodríguez and Cinco-Ley 1 for systems produced at constant flowing pressures. Wells are represented by fully penetrating vertical line sources located arbitrarily in a homogeneous and isotropic reservoir. The multiwell productivity index ͑MPI͒ is a square matrix of… Show more

“…The description below is obtained from the previous applications (Daal and Economides, 2006;Romero et al, 2002;Valkó and Economides, 1998;Valkó et al, 2000). Calculations are done on a quarter of the fracture and drainage area zone due to the symmetric nature of the fracture and reservoir system.…”

“…To the authors' best knowledge, no analytical model is available in the literature that discusses the constant-pressure production of compartmentalized systems, and that can be used for long-term production forecasting. The mathematical simplification described in this paper has the same spirit as the work documented by many authors attempting to replace a complex reservoir model by a simpler equivalent "upscaled" system (Valko et al, 2000;Kaviani et al, 2008;Sayarpour et al, 2008;Yousef et al, 2009;Noetinger, 2015).…”
