This research investigates the vocational school students’ needs on the implementation of English teaching and learning that is focused on the target needs and learning needs. By adapting Hutchinson and Waters’ model (1987), questionnaire consisting of parts A and B was administered to 32 students. Part A deals with the target needs centred on the learner’s necessities, lacks and wants that are effectively functioned in the target situation. In contrast, part B concerns about learning needs that encompass learning inputs, procedures, teacher’s and learners’ role, and setting. Additionally, interviews were also conducted with the students and an English teacher to gather data in order to examine in-depth results of the practices of English teaching and to uncover possible areas of students’ language difficulties in learning English. The results suggested that the students have different perceptions of their necessities, wants, and lacks. The findings also demonstrated the students’ learning needs including the learning inputs, teaching-learning procedures, the teacher’s and learners’ role, as well as the teachinglearning settings.

Teaching EFL reading to the students at colleges or universities requires an appropriate technique that enables students to enhance their achievement as well as to develop their sense of independent learning. This is also to respond to the current trend of that the focus of ELT today is creating learners who are not only competent but also dependent or autonomous in learning. This study is aimed at exploring the needs of both lecturers and students on EFL reading class. The method used was descriptive-qualitative. It was conducted at the English Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Pancasakti University Tegal, from April to June 2018. The participants of this study were 64 students of the fourth semester in the department attending EFL reading class and 4 EFL lecturers. The data were collected using triangulation. The instruments used were a questionnaire, classroom observation, and interview. The results showed that the instruction and assessment were still teacher-centered, the learning materials and the method did not meet the students� needs, the selection of the materials was not in line with the students� level of competence, the students were given fewer opportunities to explore and share their ideas with others, etc. The result also showed that both students and lecturers agreed that learning EFL reading through self-assessment could be an alternative learning model or technique to cope with the situations.Keywords: needs analysis; EFL reading; learner autonomy; self-assessment.

The aim of this research was to analyze the needs on integrative contentbased Indonesian language learning materials about agriculture for foreign speakers A2 level. Research and development design was used employing the Dick and Carey's model combined with Borg and Gall's model, as well as the model of learning materials development proposed by Tomlinson, Brown, and Jolly and Bolitho. This research was conducted during the foreign students indonesian course, Bogor Agricultural University on academic year 2015-2017. The procedure comprised: pre-study, students' and teachers' needs analysis on teaching materials at BIPA IPB. The findings indicated that the teaching materials about agriculture are not available yet at IPB. Besides, the needs on integrative content-based Indonesian language learning materials about agriculture for students at A2 level and the teachers were indicated high. Therefore, Indonesian language teaching material is needed for foreigners specifically for agriculture.
