Abstract:Due to emergence of English for Specific Purposes where nowadays English not only a learning material for students but it has become a need for people. Mechanical Engineering graduates are expected to have English ability to compete in job profession. For that reason, it was important to develop English learning material based on the needs of Mechanical Engineering student. The aimed of this research was to develop appropriate English learning materials for the students of Mechanical Engineering Students by us… Show more
“…Hence, Petkovska (2015) states that the lecturers have to be more creative in offering learning materials that contribute to the advancement, which will be an essential reference for universities. Etfita & Wahyuni (2020) state that a rising number of research projects provide English for specific purposes courses to satisfy the expansion of students' needs from different aspects. Those researches indicate the change in educational study, especially English, for specific purposes that have been reported in the context of technological growth.…”
Collaborative discussion is a purposeful means for lecturers to assist students’ ideas in writing. This research, therefore, aims to determine the effect of collaborative discussion using Padlet-based materials that have been previously developed by researchers for Mechanical Engineering students to enhance learning outcomes. This research was conducted at second-year undergraduate in a class of 40 students. This research was classified as a pre-experimental design. Moreover, the quantitative data were collected by using pre-test and post-test to the sample class. The finding revealed descriptive statistics of the sample studied, pre-test and post-test. For the pre-test value, an average learning outcome or mean of 60.13 is obtained. While for the post-test score, it was obtained the average value of learning outcomes of 77.25. Furthermore, the correlation coefficient or correlation is equal to 0.867 with a significance value (Sig.) of 0.000. The finding indicates that Collaborative learning using Padlet-based teaching materials in Mechanical Engineering class could influence students’ writing outcomes.

“…The material chosen for the EAP courses should be consistent with the course's objectives (Kohnke, 2019). Therefore, it should meet the goals and be acceptable in terms of the language standard, quality, and suitability (Etfita & Wahyuni, 2020;Yundayani et al, 2019).…”
Section: The Outcomes Of the Students' Needs Analysis Of Ewapmentioning
English Writing for Academic Purposes (EWAP) seems daunting for higher education students in the Indonesian context. Genuinely, the ability of EWAP is one of the study skills required in the academic field. Preliminary research has shown that EWAP materials have not been identified based on students’ needs. This study focuses on the students’ need analysis of the EWAP materials, including confirming the quality of the task-based material design that enhances the students’ skills of the EWAP. The study used the educational research and development method, involving non-English learners from a private college in Indonesia. Researchers used the test, the semi-structured interview, and the questionnaire as instruments. The observation was also carried out to describe implementing the task-based material design of the EWAP. The results indicate that students need task-based material as an authentic EWAP material that focuses on learning to communicate through interaction. It also gives them the ability to focus not just on the use of languages but also on the learning process itself. The task-based EWAP materials have a significant influence on the development of students’ writing skills. As a result, this approach is well suited to foster a learning desire to write in a context-approximately as a means of expressing their intentions. Besides, the study’s findings show that students were very enthusiastic about engaging in the learning process.
“…As modern science and technology are advancing, people's interaction and communication are globalized, in this context, as the lingua franca, English learning and English communication have become a part of many people's daily life [1][2][3][4]. Our society needs talents that excel in English-Chinese translation and English education.…”
Our society needs talents that excel in English-Chinese translation and English education. However, there is not yet a unified and scientific evaluation index system (EIS) for the employment quality of graduates from English department of colleges. Very few scholars have analyzed the difference between English majors in employment ability. Therefore, this paper decides to analyze the difference between English majors in employment ability, and evaluate their employment quality. Firstly, an EIS was constructed to evaluate and predict the employment quality of English majors in colleges. Secondly, the relevant indices were selected and analyzed in turn. Thirdly, an employment quality prediction model was constructed for English majors in colleges. The proposed EIS and model were proved effective through experiments.
