Extensive digitization and interconnection through networks have ushered in a number of new paradigms over the last years: Internet of Things, cyber–physical systems, Industry 4.0, etc. These challenging systems rely on an effective information communication between distributed components. Therefore, the heterogeneity of entities, both hardware and software, must be handled to achieve an operative interoperability and a proper behavior. However, there is also a heterogeneous availability of solutions; different technologies, protocols, and architectures aim to achieve a seamless interconnection. Henceforth, the standardization still requires great efforts from industrial and scientific environments. In this sense, the interface of the open platform communications (OPC) has supported connectivity for automation and supervision infrastructures for more than two decades. The OPC comprises the so-called classic OPC, the original protocol, as well as the last specification, unified architecture (UA). The widespread utilization of the classic OPC together with the powerful functionalities of OPC UA, make the latter one of the main candidates to lead the standardization and systems integration. This paper presents a survey of recent OPC-based systems reported in scientific literature for different domains as well as research projects. The goal of this paper is to provide a broad perspective about the OPC’ applicability and capabilities in order to support the decision about communication interfaces. The results are analyzed and discussed putting special attention on the aforementioned new paradigms. Finally, the main conclusions and open research directions are highlighted.

RESUMENUn sistema Ciber-Físico de Producción Industrial (CPPS) dota a los dispositivos de control industriales actuales de altas capacidades de computación, almacenamiento y comunicación tanto local como remota convirtiéndolos en dispositivos inteligentes y autónomos. Usando los conceptos del Internet Industrial de las Cosas (IIoT) podemos inferir que los CPPS están, conectados entre sí y a su vez conectados con el mundo virtual de las redes digitales globales. Esto ha llevado a la adopción por parte de las empresas de normas como IEC-61499 que permiten modelar y desarrollar sistemas distribuidos flexibles y configurables. Otra norma muy usada es ISA 88 que ofrece un conjunto coherente de modelos y terminología para el control de procesos de fabricación por lotes que pueden ser implementados bajo IEC-61499 para diseñar CPPSs inclusive usando dispositivos de bajo coste. El siguiente trabajo propone el desarrollo de aplicaciones de control distribuido en CPPS bajo norma IEC-61499 en hardware empotrado de bajo coste como son las tarjetas BeagleBone Black y Raspberry PI; teniendo de base los modelos presentados en la norma ISA-88 que permitirán el desarrollo de algoritmos de control distribuido encapsulados dentro de Bloques de Funciones (FBs) el cual es el modelo fundamental de la norma IEC-61499.Palabras clave: IEC-61499, ISA-88, sistemas discretos, control por lotes, industria 4.0. ABSTRACTA cyber-physical system integrates capacities such as computing, storing and communication along with others in the physical world such as objects tracking and/or objects controlling. According to the IIoT concepts it is possible to infer that CPPS systems are normally connected to each other, and also connected to the virtual world of global digital networks. It is here where, introducing the IEC-61499 standard, will allow the CPPS to implement distributed, flexible and reconfigurable controllers. In the industrial context, the ISA-88 regulation offers a coherent set of standards and terminology for batch control and defines models: physical model, controlling model etc., for this kind of industries. That is why it is necessary to provide the industry with low-cost alternatives which could redirect the CPPS development to a new variety of devices. This paper proposes the development of the FBs networks needed in the integration of distributed control systems with the use of two embedded hardware like: BeagleBone Black and Raspberry PI; having the models presented in the ISA-88 standard as the base for developing the control algorithms encapsulated inside the FBs of control.

<div data-canvas-width="1135.8634592">Es evidente que en los próximos años gran parte de las tecnologías recogidas bajo el marco de la denominada Industria 4.0 tendrá un profundo impacto en todas las empresas y entre ellas, en las relacionadas con la explotación y producción de petróleo y gas. La automatización de bajo coste promueve arquitecturas de referencia rentables y nuevos enfoques de desarrollo para aumentar la flexibilidad y la eficiencia de las operaciones de producción en una planta industrial. En este sentido, OPC UA, proporciona acceso local y remoto a la información de planta, facilitando un mecanismo reconocido de integración tanto horizontal como vertical de manera correcta, segura y eficiente. El objetivo principal de este artículo es presentar una arquitectura abierta para la integración vertical basada en sistemas ciber-físicos de producción, configurados bajo la norma IEC 61499 y usando OPC UA, apta para su utilización en la fabricación flexible en la industria de petróleo y</div><div data-canvas-width="30.297807999999996">gas.</div>
