Industrial effluents are usually one of the major industries polluting the environment and surface water. It is estimated that the worldwide production of dyes is about 70 tons/year. To overcome this problem, innovative processes are suggested for the treatment of industrial effluents containing dyes and heavy metals. The goal of the processes is often to reduce the toxicity of these pollutants in order to meet treatment standards. Recently, great attention has been paid to innovative processes for physical and chemical removal techniques such as adsorption on new adsorbents, biomass adsorption, membrane filtration, irradiation, and electrochemical coagulation. In this study, the application of adsorbents in the adsorption process to remove dye pollutants from industrial effluents has been studied. Factors affecting dye adsorption such as pH, temperature, initial dye concentration, and adsorbent amount are also presented. The obtained results revealed that more than 80% of the dye adsorption on the surface of adsorbents are endothermic processes and more than 95% of the processes obey the pseudo-second-order kinetic model.

The main complications of urinary catheters are the bacteria's biofilm formation and the urinary tract infection caused by gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. In the recent years, the attention has changed its direction toward the antimicrobial, anti-biofilmic, and hydrophobicity effects of herbal extracts. Some of these extracts can inhibit the colonization of the two bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli which are resistant to antibiotics. These bacteria can stick to the surface of polymer materials due to their hydrophobicity. Thus, antibacterial hydrophilic herbal extracts are supposed to help reduce the risk of the surficial infection if they are used to impregnate the urinary catheters. In this research, the extracts of these four plants eucalyptus, rosemary, green tea and ziziphora were used as the antibacterial agents. After the impregnation and modification of the sample catheters, they were tested by AFM, FE-SEM, ATR-FTIR methods to measure their mechanical, chemical, and hydrophilic properties, during the 21-day experiment period, compared to non-impregnated ones. The tests showed the silicone catheters impregnated by the herbal extracts have some significant anti-biofilmic and antibacterial properties (P˂0.0001) due to the increase in their hydrophilic property. The impregnated catheters could be release the extracts and killed bacteria in 21 days Therefore; some herbal extracts can be good alternatives to chemical drugs.

Tea waste was used to successfully synthesize magnetic nanoparticles (TWMNPs). In this investigation, Pb (II) was eliminated by tea waste modified with magnetite nanoparticles (TWMNPs) was investigated. To prepare the TWMNPs, FeCl3.6H2O was dissolved in double distilled water (DDW) and 20 g of pulp tea was added slowly and stirred, after 30 min TWMNPs adsorbent were separated through an external magnetic field and washed three times with double distilled water (DDW) and ethanol then dried at 60°C. The FESEM test of TWMNPs shows the particle size in the range of 15–20 nm and spherical/cuboid-shaped crystal structure of Fe3O4 (magnetite). X-ray analysis showed that the main XRD diffraction peaks of TWMNPs are related to Fe3O4, HighScore plus X’Pert software was used to identify the phase in this sample. The specific surface area of the prepared magnetite nanoparticles was 25.2 m2.g−1. The pore volume, maximum pore radius, and VSM of TWMNPs were 14.4 cm3.g−1, 2.3 nm, and 3.37–2.41, respectively. The effects of various parameters, such as contact time, pH, concentration, and adsorbent dosage, were studied. The experimental isotherm data were analyzed using the Langmuir and Freundlich models, and it was found that the removal process followed the Langmuir isotherm and the maximum adsorption capacity calculated by Langmuir fitting was 10.67 mg.g−1. In addition, the adsorption kinetics followed the first-order kinetic model and the value of rate constant was found to be 14.04 × 10−2 min−1. The results showed that increasing the pH level led to a rise in the response level and Pb (II) removal. Also, the trend in Pb (II) removal and response level had an increase with increasing the initial concentration of Pb (II). Increasing contact time from 5 to 20 minutes has a slight effect on Pb (II) removal. Considering the results, TWMNPs could lead to suitable results for the removal of Pb (II) from wastewater containing this metal. And the maximum adsorption capacity was found to be 10.67 mg.g−1.
