Integration of our data from the Yong'an Basin with data from the contemporaneous Shiwandashan Basin to the southwest and the Youjiang Basin to the west suggests both margins played a role in the evolving tectonic framework in Triassic times whereas the subduction of the Paleo‐Pacific played a dominated role in the Permian and Jurassic.…”

Others have argued that during the Permo‐Triassic the South China Craton was under the influence of the subduction and closure of the Paleo‐Tethys Ocean and subsequent collisional tectonic activities between the South China Craton and Indochina Block [e.g., Cai and Zhang , ; Shu et al ., ; Yang et al ., , ], with subduction of the Paleo‐Pacific not commencing until the Early to Middle Jurassic [e.g., Zhou et al ., ]. These end‐member models are not mutually exclusive, and subduction of both the Paleo‐Tethys and Paleo‐Pacific may have played a part in the evolution of South China, but in detail the interplay between the two has not been investigated and hence is an aim of this paper.…”

Geochronology and petrogenesis of Middle Permian S-type granitoid in southeastern Guangxi Province, South China: Implications for closure of the eastern Paleo-Tethys

(3) U-Pb ages of detrital zircons from sedimentary formations in the Qinzhou-Fangcheng area and sandstone in the Youjiang Basin suggest Permo-Triassic orogenic event following the subduction of a Paleo-Tethys branch ocean and subsequent collision of the ICB with SCB (Yang et al, 2012b;Hu et al, 2014). Therefore, a model, subduction of the eastern Paleo-Tethys Ocean (Chen et al, 2011a;Wen et al, 2013), was proposed to successfully interpret the Permian magmatism in central Hainan Island.…”
