Determination of the Hydrogen-Donating Ability of Industrial Distillate Narrow Fractions

Abstract: The hydrogen-donating ability (HDA) of the narrow fractions of coker gas oil (CGO), fluid catalytic cracking slurry (FCCS), and furfural extract oil (FEO) was investigated in an autoclave reactor. Anthracene was selected as a hydrogen acceptor probe for accepting hydrogen released by the hydrogen donor. Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) was employed to identify different categories of hydrogen of the mixture. On the basis of the 1H NMR data, a method for calculating the HDA was developed to characteri… Show more

“…11 The analysis of the hydrocarbon types was carried out on MS (Agilent 5973 MS) according to ASTM D2786-91 and D3239-91 methods. 28 ICGO and HICGO samples were introduced without any extraction. A non-aqueous titration method was used for basic nitrogen analysis according to the UOP269 standard.…”

“…Four fractionations with varying distillation cutting depths were performed for varying petroleum residues and corresponding vacuum distillate samples following the standardized procedure. 21 Structural parameters (aromaticity, naphthenicity, and aliphaticity) are calculated via the Brown−Ladner method, which is based on 1 H NMR data.…”

“…Some examples are light synthetic oils and gas oils; their narrow fractions; technological solvents and byproducts, such as furfural, a slurry and a decant oil (FCCS and FCCDO), a heavy cycle oil (HCO) produced by fluid catalytic cracking, etc. ; these are all studied as industrial H-donors. However, such H-donor additives are complex mixtures of chemical compounds, depending on their origin, and therefore it is essential to identify candidates with optimal characteristics. The hydrogen-donating ability index is used to find their potential.…”
